The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is implementing changes to the electronic filing of information returns beginning January 2025.
Key updates include:
- Updated T619 Transmittal Requirements: A new version of the T619 Electronic Transmittal record will be mandatory, including a valid email address for follow-up as needed.
- One Return Type per Submission: Each electronic submission will be restricted to a single type of return.
- Enhanced Error Reporting: Submissions will now generate online validation reports, identifying any issues that may need correction before final submission.
- Earlier System Shutdown: This year, the CRA’s system shutdown for online filing will begin earlier on December 2, 2024.
If your business files six or more information returns, you are required to file electronically to avoid penalties.
