The best resources we have are each other.
Running a business means wearing a lot of hats. For many local employers, “HR” is just one more responsibility — often handled by office managers, bookkeepers, supervisors, or family members pitching in to keep things running smoothly.

To help, the Huron Chamber of Commerce is launching its first Peer Network, beginning with a group dedicated to supporting Human Resources leaders. Sponsored by Ladder HR Solutions, this new members-only network brings together everyone in our business community who tackles people and workplace issues, whether they are HR professionals by training or by necessity.
Monthly gatherings will take place online via Zoom, beginning with the first session on Tuesday, July 9th at 8:30 a.m. The early time slot was chosen because HR issues often arise without warning — starting the day with fresh ideas and peer support can make all the difference. What gets discussed will be driven by participants themselves, ensuring every session stays practical and relevant.
Therese van Es, owner of Ladder HR Solutions, says the partnership is a natural fit: “Our collaboration with the Chamber reflects our commitment to supporting local businesses and their people. We know HR challenges can be isolating, so this network is about building real connections and sharing practical solutions.”
Yolanda Ritsema, Recruitment and Retention Specialist at the Avon Maitland District School Board, a Chamber member, agrees that the network fills a gap: “Being able to talk with others who understand the daily realities of HR work will be a big help in my role, and I’m excited to connect with colleagues across the County.”
Colin Carmichael, Executive Director of the Huron Chamber of Commerce, adds, “With the lowest unemployment rate in Southern Ontario, our employers face unique challenges finding and keeping great people. This network is one more way the Chamber helps local leaders support each other and navigate those challenges together.”
The Chamber plans to expand its Peer Networks over time to include other key roles and functions — marketing, IT, finance, and more — all designed to connect community leaders and strengthen the local business community through peer support and shared solutions.
