Learn strategies to attract immigrant talent and how to grow your workforce from within.

Discover how rural employers can strengthen their workforce by unlocking the potential of newcomer talent.

This interactive session is designed for employers, HR professionals, and community partners looking to address labour shortages through practical hiring strategies and inclusive workforce practices.

Led by Celeste Gray of WILL Employment Solutions, participants will explore how skills mapping can help identify transferable skills, reduce hiring risks, and create stronger pathways for newcomer integration and long-term retention.

Through real-world examples, group activities, and employer-focused discussion, attendees will learn how to shift hiring from credentials to capabilities – recognizing talent that may otherwise be overlooked. Topics include transferable skills, inclusive onboarding, mentorship, and strategies for overcoming common rural workforce challenges such as housing, transportation, and workplace integration.

Whether you are a large employer or a small to medium-sized business, this session will provide practical tools to help you hire smarter, retain talent longer, and build a stronger, more inclusive rural workforce.

The event is organized by the Huron County Immigration Partnership, Huron Chamber of Commerce, Township of North Huron, and WILL Employment Solutions, with support from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

The event will also feature the launch of a new publication that aims to be a tool for employers on how to recognize transferrable skills newcomers to Canada bring and how to effectively onboard staff.
