Huron County on the Path to Net Zero

Three experts from the energy industry will discuss the challenges and successes along the path to net zero in an event open to Chamber members or by invitation only. This event is moderated by the Chair of the Huron Chamber of Commerce. Sponsored by Enbridge Gas.
This event was postponed from a date in January as a result of panelists’ illness. Anyone who booked for the original date will receive priority booking. All others will be placed a wait list.

Panelist Wayne Passmore is a Technical Manager in the low carbon business development group for Enbridge Gas. In this role, he is responsible for identifying, advancing, and executing new and innovative strategic projects that will help lower GHG emissions in Ontario, with a focus on Carbon Capture and Sequestration and new sources and markets for Renewable Natural Gas and Hydrogen. Previously, Wayne was a Specialist in Economic Development and worked with municipal and provincial economic development groups to attract and retain large energy intensive businesses to Ontario. Prior roles in Union Gas included sales and marketing, strategic product and service development, business integration and contract account management. Wayne started his career at Union Gas over 30 years ago, fresh out of the University of Waterloo, as a geological engineer, developing underground natural gas storage facilities. He and his wife Libby, live on the north shore of Lake Erie, near Rondeau Park.
Panelist Andrew Thiele is the Director of Bruce Power Net Zero a new commercial entity focused on unlocking the potential of other complementary technologies to nuclear including storage, renewables, hydrogen, and electrified transportation to achieve a net zero future. Andrew is a graduate of the Munk school of Global Affairs the University of Toronto and holds his BA from the University of Guelph. Prior to working with Bruce Power, Andrew spent three years as a Policy Advisor for the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and Ontario government. These experiences have made him well versed across multiple policy areas from both a public and private perspective.
Panelist Jason Van Geel is Founder and President of Carlsun Energy Solutions. He started his career in the wind industry over 20 years ago and founded Carlsun as a leading construction and project integration company servicing the renewable energy and hydrogen sectors in Canada.
Moderator Jennifer Verdam-Woodward is the Director of Finance, Canada Operations for Compass Minerals. She moved to Goderich in early 2015. Prior to working at Compass Minerals, she was a controller and accounting manager for 13 years in Aerospace, General Industry, and Automotive manufacturing plants. In addition to serving as the current Chair and past Treasurer on the Huron Chamber Board, Jennifer also serves as Treasurer of the Huron Women’s Shelter, Second Stage Housing, and Counselling Services Board, Secretary of the Unit 249 American Contract Bridge League Board, Administrator of the ACBL District 2 Board, and is a former member of the Goderich Economic Development Committee.
