As part of our ongoing commitment to the well-being of our community, the Huron Chamber of Commerce is proud to highlight an upcoming initiative by one of our members, the Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health (CERH). Gateway CERH is offering a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course on May 16th at the Kingsbridge Centre. This training is a prime opportunity for businesses within and beyond our Chamber community to foster a supportive environment for mental health.

What is Mental Health First Aid?

Mental Health First Aid serves as critical support for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis, akin to physical first aid. The course, facilitated by trained professionals from our local community, teaches participants to identify symptoms, offer initial help, and guide those in need towards appropriate resources. This proactive approach can significantly impact the management of mental health crises and contribute to healthier communities.

Course Structure and Enrollment Details

The MHFA course comprises:

  • Module 1: A self-directed online module that participants complete on their own time.
  • Modules 2 and 3: These are conducted in person, involving 7 hours in the classroom and an additional 2 hours of self-directed learning. The course can be completed in one full day or over two half-days within a two-week period.

Gateway CERH is open to arranging special sessions for businesses wanting to train multiple employees. This flexibility ensures that all our Chamber members can participate and benefit from the training, tailored to their scheduling needs.
