As the dust settles following Canada’s federal election, the Huron Chamber of Commerce extends sincere congratulations to Huron–Bruce Member of Parliament Ben Lobb on his re-election, to Prime Minister Mark Carney on his election as a member of parliament, and to the other candidates in Huron–Bruce for their efforts and commitment to a healthy democracy.

This marks Ben Lobb’s sixth consecutive election victory, having represented the people of Huron–Bruce since 2008. His longstanding service provides valuable experience and continuity for our region at a time when strong, steady leadership is essential.

While some results are still being finalized, it is clear that Canadians have elected a Liberal minority government. In moments like these, cooperation across party lines will be essential to meet the economic challenges ahead.

Today’s Parliament begins its work against the backdrop of escalating threats from the United States. Since returning to the White House earlier this year, U.S. President Donald Trump has imposed new tariffs on Canadian exports and repeatedly challenged Canadian sovereignty, including during our election campaign. His remarks about Canada becoming the “51st state,” alongside aggressive trade measures, have underlined the seriousness of the moment.

The Huron Chamber of Commerce is calling on all parties to work together in the interest of all Canadians. This means putting aside political divisions and collaborating to defend Canadian jobs, safeguard the stability of our export-driven economy, and protect the autonomy of our national institutions.

For the businesses, workers, and families of Huron County, this isn’t abstract policy—it’s about livelihoods, competitiveness, and the long-term health of our local economy.

We urge all Members of Parliament to come together in this new Parliament to defend and advance the interests of Canadians. Unity, not division, must define our response to this moment.
